Compatibility
Products & Materials
What types of flooring does STEPIT LVP fabricate?
STEPIT LVP exclusively fabricates compatible luxury vinyl plank. We do not fabricate laminate, engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, or other plank materials.
Do you accept SPC, WPC, and glue-down LVP?
Rigid-core SPC and WPC products are accepted. Flexible or glue-down LVP may be accepted when the total product thickness is at least 5 mm and the material passes compatibility review.
What are the minimum material requirements?
- Overall thickness between 5 mm and 10 mm
- Minimum plank width of 6 inches
- Minimum wear layer of 12 mil
- Material must pass STEPIT LVP compatibility review
Can flooring with attached padding be fabricated?
Yes. Attached padding is accepted and remains attached to the plank during fabrication.
Why must flooring arrive in unopened boxes?
Unopened manufacturer boxes allow STEPIT LVP to review the product labels, specifications, condition, and production information. Loose planks and previously opened boxes are not accepted.
How much extra flooring should I provide?
Provide at least 15% extra material, with a minimum of three extra planks per order. Additional material may be required for returns, testing, large components, unusual configurations, or narrow planks. Unused flooring is returned with the completed order.
Why is extremely dark or black LVP not accepted?
Very dark flooring can make stretching, lightening, stress marks, and surface changes more visible along the formed area. For this reason, extremely dark and black LVP products are not accepted.
Will the components exactly match my flooring?
Components are fabricated from the supplied LVP, allowing them to coordinate closely with the flooring. Differences in plank pattern, print repeat, texture, gloss, production lot, and the forming process may create visible variation. Continuous grain alignment and identical pattern placement are not guaranteed.
Does fabrication affect the flooring manufacturer’s warranty?
Heating, cutting, forming, or otherwise modifying flooring may affect or void the original manufacturer’s warranty. STEPIT LVP does not provide or assume the flooring manufacturer’s material warranty. Customers should verify coverage with the manufacturer before submitting material.
Fabrication Options
Profiles, Components & Dimensions
What stair components can you fabricate?
Available components include separate stair noses, full-depth stair treads and caps, top-step and landing pieces, overlap stair noses, and left, right, or double-return configurations.
What is the difference between a separate stair nose and a full-depth tread?
A separate stair nose covers the front portion of the step and is completed with additional flooring behind it. A full-depth tread or cap covers the complete tread depth and is delivered as one assembled component.
What nosing profiles and front-drop sizes are available?
Standard stair noses have a 1-inch finished top depth. The Round profile is available only with a 1 1/8-inch front drop. The Modern Square profile is available with either a 1 1/8-inch or 1 5/8-inch front drop.
What is the maximum fabricated length?
Separate stair noses, full-depth treads, and top-step or landing pieces may be fabricated up to 64 inches long. Listed pricing includes lengths up to 48 inches. A $5 surcharge applies to pieces longer than 48 inches.
Can two stair noses be joined on a stair wider than 64 inches?
Joining two stair noses across the face of one stair is not recommended. The maximum continuous fabricated length is 64 inches. Projects exceeding that length must be reviewed before ordering.
How deep can a full-depth stair tread be?
Full-depth stair treads and caps can be fabricated up to 14 inches deep, subject to the supplied plank dimensions and approved configuration.
Is the original click-lock retained?
The original click-lock is retained along the long horizontal edge of the plank. The locking system on the short ends is normally removed during fabrication.
A short-end locking edge may remain when the full plank length is required for the component or when fabricating a top-step or landing piece.
What transition profiles are available?
Available profiles include reducers, T-moldings, end caps, overlap stair noses, and project-specific transitions between floors of different heights.
What is an open return?
An open return finishes the exposed side of a stair tread. Left and right are determined while standing at the bottom of the staircase and looking upward. Left, right, and double-return configurations are available.
Can the standard 14-inch return be made longer?
Factory-fabricated returns are provided at the standard 14-inch length and may be shortened in the field. Longer exposed edges should be completed in the field using a separate stair nose with an appropriate mitered connection.
Does STEPIT LVP fabricate risers?
STEPIT LVP does not fabricate custom risers. Coordinating riser products may become available for purchase separately as the product catalog expands.
Project Preparation
Measurements, Trimming & Approval
What information is required before an order can be approved?
- Flooring manufacturer, collection, and color
- Product link or clear photograph of the box label
- Overall thickness, plank width, and plank length
- Wear-layer and attached-pad information
- Component type and quantity
- Minimum required width or length
- Nosing profile and front-drop selection
- Left, right, or double-return requirements
- Photographs for unusual stair configurations
Does STEPIT LVP verify my measurements?
No. Submitted dimensions and photographs may be reviewed for fabrication feasibility, but this review does not verify field measurements or guarantee project fit. The customer and installer are responsible for all final measurements.
Do components arrive at the exact finished width?
Standard stair noses and tread components are normally supplied oversized for final field trimming. A submitted stair-nose width is treated as the minimum required finished width.
What measurements are required for a double-return component?
Components with returns on both sides require exact finished measurements. Double-return components are not recommended to be shortened in the field because trimming could affect both finished returns and the overall fit.
Can fabricated components be trimmed in the field?
Standard components may be shortened or trimmed by the installer using appropriate tools and methods. Field cutting, fitting, and modification are the installer’s responsibility and are not covered by the fabrication-workmanship warranty.
What happens if I submit an incorrect measurement?
A component fabricated correctly according to customer-approved dimensions or specifications is not considered defective. Incorrectly measured pieces are not returnable and require a new fabrication charge if they must be remade.
Does STEPIT LVP provide technical support?
STEPIT LVP may assist with material compatibility, profile selection, component configuration, and questions about the fabricated product.
STEPIT LVP does not provide field measurements, installation supervision, jobsite troubleshooting, stair design, building-code approval, or verification of substrate, adhesive, or site conditions. The customer and installer remain responsible for preparation, fitting, and installation.
Orders
Ordering, Pricing & Payment
Who normally supplies the LVP?
Customers normally supply the LVP. STEPIT LVP may also source material through distributors or local flooring dealers when requested and available. Material sourcing includes an additional service charge.
How many planks are needed for each component?
A separate stair nose normally uses one plank. A full-depth tread commonly requires two planks when the flooring is approximately 7 inches wide. Actual requirements vary by plank width, tread depth, component length, returns, testing, and product construction.
How long does fabrication take?
Standard turnaround is generally two business days after the approved material and final order details are received. Orders exceeding 100 pieces typically require 3–5 business days.
Is rush fabrication available?
Rush fabrication may be available for an additional fee, depending on order size, production capacity, material, and the requested completion time.
What is the difference between rush fabrication and expedited shipping?
Rush fabrication shortens production time when approved. Expedited shipping only shortens carrier transit time after fabrication is complete. Expedited shipping does not automatically shorten fabrication time.
When is payment due?
Local orders are payable at pickup or approved local delivery. Orders that will be shipped must be paid in full before shipment. Material sourcing and other special-order charges may be required in advance.
Can an order be changed or canceled?
Orders may be changed or canceled only before fabrication begins. Once fabrication has started, the order cannot be changed, canceled, or refunded.
When STEPIT LVP is sourcing the flooring, the order cannot be canceled after the material has been sourced or ordered.
Fulfillment
Material Delivery, Pickup & Shipping
Can I deliver flooring and pick up my order locally?
Yes. Approved materials may be delivered to the STEPIT LVP facility in Norcross, Georgia. Completed local orders may be picked up according to the approved order arrangements.
Where does STEPIT LVP ship?
Shipping is limited to approved destinations within the Southeast United States. Contact STEPIT LVP before sending material to confirm that your destination and order are eligible for shipping.
Who is responsible for flooring shipped to STEPIT LVP?
The customer is responsible for the flooring until it is received and accepted by STEPIT LVP. Loss, shortage, carrier mishandling, and damage during inbound shipment are the customer’s responsibility.
What should I do if a completed order arrives damaged?
Inspect shipped orders within two days of delivery. Photograph the unopened box, shipping label, damaged packaging, internal packaging, and affected pieces. Retain all packaging while the shipping claim is reviewed.
Shipping damage is handled separately from the fabrication-workmanship warranty.
How long will a completed local order be held?
Completed local orders must be picked up within five business days after the customer is notified that the order is ready. Customers who need additional time must contact STEPIT LVP in advance to discuss alternate pickup arrangements.
Jobsite Requirements
Installation & Site Conditions
Does STEPIT LVP provide installation?
No. STEPIT LVP provides fabrication only. We do not provide field measurements, templates, installation services, or installation supervision.
How must the components be installed?
Components must be installed using adhesive only. Mechanical fasteners, including nails, screws, staples, and similar hardware, are not permitted. Roberts 1487 Engineered+ Wood Flooring Adhesive is the recommended adhesive.
Must the complete component be fully supported?
Yes. The entire tread and nosing must have continuous, solid support from an approved substrate. Voids, unsupported overhangs, movement, flexing, and gaps beneath the component can cause failure and are excluded from warranty coverage.
What stair substrates are approved?
Approved substrates include:
- Plywood stair treads
- Solid wood stair treads
- Concrete stairs
- Existing hardwood treads that are properly prepared
MDF, particleboard, existing LVP, and existing laminate are not approved substrates.
How must the existing staircase be prepared?
Carpet, padding, tack strips, staples, nails, old adhesive, and loose materials must be removed. Painted or stained wood must be sanded to clean, bare wood. The substrate must be flat, solid, dry, clean, stable, and properly sized for the ordered component.
What if the existing stair has a rounded or oversized wood nose?
Existing stair geometry may need to be cut, squared, rebuilt, or otherwise modified before installation. The installer is responsible for creating a properly sized, flat, solid, and fully supported substrate that fits the ordered profile.
When can the stairs be walked on after installation?
Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s curing and traffic instructions. The installer is responsible for protecting the staircase and preventing use until the adhesive has developed the required bond.
Are the completed stairs waterproof?
The fabricated component retains the surface characteristics of the supplied LVP, but the completed stair assembly is not represented as waterproof. Seams, edges, adhesive, substrate conditions, installation, and field modifications can affect moisture performance.
Can the products be installed outdoors or in commercial spaces?
STEPIT LVP products are intended for residential interior use. Exterior installations, uncontrolled environments, and unapproved commercial applications are not covered.
Does STEPIT LVP certify building-code or slip-resistance compliance?
No. STEPIT LVP provides custom fabrication and does not certify that a completed staircase complies with a specific building code, accessibility requirement, or slip-resistance standard. The customer, contractor, designer, and installer are responsible for verifying all project requirements.
How should the completed stairs be cleaned?
Follow the original flooring manufacturer’s approved cleaning instructions. Avoid steam cleaning, abrasive tools, harsh chemicals, excessive water, and methods that could damage the flooring surface, seams, or adhesive bond.
After Fabrication
Returns, Claims & Limited Warranty
Can custom-fabricated products be returned?
Custom-fabricated products are not returnable. A product with a suspected fabrication-workmanship defect must be reported and approved through the warranty-claim process before a remedy is provided.
What warranty is included?
STEPIT LVP provides a limited one-year fabrication-workmanship warranty covering only defects directly caused by the STEPIT LVP fabrication process.
What is excluded from the warranty?
- The supplied LVP material or manufacturer defects
- Color, grain, gloss, texture, or pattern variation
- Installation, adhesive, or installer workmanship
- Substrate, moisture, movement, or site conditions
- Unsupported areas, voids, gaps, or flexing
- Field cutting, trimming, fitting, or modification
- Mechanical fasteners or unapproved installation methods
- Misuse, impact, abuse, or normal wear
- Shipping damage handled through a carrier claim
- Labor, removal, disposal, or reinstallation costs
When must a visible concern be reported?
Visible concerns must be reported before the component is cut, trimmed, modified, or installed. Installation or modification of a visibly questionable component may prevent the concern from qualifying as a fabrication-workmanship claim.
What is the remedy for an approved warranty claim?
Approved claims are limited, at STEPIT LVP’s option, to repair, remanufacture, or refund of the fabrication charge for the affected piece. Material replacement, installation labor, removal, and reinstallation are not included.
What information is required for a warranty claim?
- Original order information
- Clear photographs of the full staircase
- Close-up photographs of the affected component
- Installation date and installer information
- Description of the installation method
- Photographs of the substrate and adhesive when available
- Confirmation that mechanical fasteners were not used

Flooring distributors, dealers, retail shops, installers, contractors, and related flooring professionals may apply for a partner account.
How is partner pricing approved?
Partner pricing is available only after the applicant creates an account, provides proof of flooring or related trade activity, and receives approval from STEPIT LVP.
Can partners set their own resale prices?
Yes. Approved partners may set their own resale prices for products and services provided to their customers.
Will STEPIT LVP communicate directly with my customer?
Communication normally remains between STEPIT LVP and the approved partner. STEPIT LVP may communicate directly with the end customer only when requested or authorized by the partner.
Is unbranded fulfillment available?
Unbranded manufacturing and packaging arrangements may be available to approved partners. STEPIT LVP does not currently offer private-label manufacturing under another company’s brand.
Can a partner order be shipped directly to the partner’s customer?
Partner orders are shipped to or picked up by the approved partner. Direct-to-customer shipping is reserved for direct consumer orders unless STEPIT LVP approves another arrangement.
Are countertop samples available?
Qualified dealers may request a free countertop sample made with flooring selected by STEPIT LVP. Standard sample shipping is included.
When a dealer requests a sample made from its own flooring, the sample is treated as a paid fabrication service.
Final Order Review Is Required
Material compatibility, component type, profile selection, dimensions, returns, quantity, pricing, turnaround, pickup, and shipping must be reviewed and approved before fabrication begins.
